The South Australian branch of the Australian Speak Easy Association
invites you to attend the 12th National Convention
to be held in Adelaide April 2008.
This convention is a departure from the normal 5-day event which
really was four days excluding the rest day. This convention will
be an action-packed three days with the view of attracting more
people because less time off work is required and the cost more
affordable.
The emphasis for the convention will be to consider speaking as
a fun activity, as a sport if you like, rather than something
to be feared and avoided. Many of the key-note speakers and workshops
will take a holistic view of stuttering recognising that as well
as having a good technique in which we trust, we also need to
look at other aspects of “self” to move forward in
our quest to speak better.
Attendees will hear about and be given the opportunity to practise
strategies that will make speaking an enjoyable experience rather
than an onerous chore, an experience to be feared and avoided.

The Sunday session will end at 4:00pm.
Keynote speakers will be chosen from people who will talk about
topics that aren’t specific to any one technique or tool
but rather strategies that apply to the use of all techniques
in real life situations.
Workshop leaders will be an appropriate mixture of professionals
and people who stutter. A highlight will be interactive video
Internet Skype presentations by prominent overseas speakers.
Workshops will include Breathe for Life (and good speech), Public
Speaking with speeches in the main square of Glenelg as a highlight,
Employment Issues and Strategies, Life-Coaching, Health and Fitness,
Instant Calm, Relaxation, Self-esteem and Confidence, Research
in Progress, Using Fear and Anxiety Constructively and opportunities
for Success Stories to mention just a few. There will be ample
opportunity for Speak Easy members to “strut their stuff”
including an oratory competition.
The
Convention is being held at the Haven Inn Marina, overlooking
the Patawalonga waterway (refer
www.haveninn.com.au).
The
venue is ideal for conventions, offering 3.5 star accommodation
and being perfectly situated within five minutes of Glenelg beach,
the dining, entertainment and shopping precincts of Holdfast Shores
and Jetty Road and the tram to Adelaide. Glenelg is Adelaide’s
premier beachside suburb and only 10 minutes from the airport
or 20 minutes by tram from the city.
